About The Rhythms

Ecstatic Dance is based on the Five Rhythms® of Gabrielle Roth.

FLOWING begins the Wave. It is a receptive, fluid, feminine, soft-edged rhythm, that slowly unveils itself, grows stronger, bringing the mover to the edge of staccato.

STACCATO holds the energy of the masculine, the place of action, moving out. Dancing this fiery, earthy rhythm quickens the body and breath, leading the mover into the rhythm of chaos.

CHAOS holds the quality of surrender. The dancer lets go into mysterious wildness, and is released from contraction and holding on. This letting go naturally begins to lighten the body.

LYRICAL now reveals itself. The dancer experiences less and less effort, more heart, more beauty, and more easefulness.

MOVING STILLNESS awaits the dancer, beckoning them to move around their stillpoint, releasing them into the heart of compassion.
